The Orthodox Jewish Student Who Won Gold in the International Science
Olympiad
Revital Wallach, a 12th-grade student at the "Rav Baharn Ulpana"
Religious Girls High School in Gedera, Israel, is the winner of the gold
medal in physics at the 2022 International Science Olympiads.
The Baharan Ulpana is a four-year Orthodox Jewish boarding school for
girls with about 480 students in grades 9 to 12. [Half the day is devoted
to the study of religious subjects and half to secular subjects.] Rabbi
Avraham HaCohen Baharan, who passed away in 1994, was a dedicated
educator who believed in teaching every girl spiritually according to
where she is at and trusting her completely.
It's the stuff that wins gold medals.
In winning the gold, Revital Wallach recorded an extraordinary achievement
when she defeated 369 participants from 74 countries and was ranked first
in the field, to become the first Israeli student to win gold in physics.

Revital Wallach grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family in Israel
(she has 10 brothers and sisters). Two years ago, as a 17-year-old 12th
grade high school student, she won the gold medal in physics at the 2022
International Science Olympiads, when she outdid the best of the 369 other
most talented young science students who came from 74 different countries.
Now, two years later in 2024, Revital is a 19-year-old first-year student
at the famed Technion University in Haifa, Israel, enrolled in their program
for child prodigies. She so amazes the scientific world with the purity
of her solutions that Forbes magazine, in its April 2024 issue, named
her among the top 30 most promising young scientists in Israel.
